Speakmark: Teleprompter (“Speakmark”) scrolls your scripts so you can read them while you speak, and can record a video of you while it does. It is developed by Anees Studio (“we”). This page explains what the app keeps, what it does with the camera and the microphone, where anything goes, and how to remove it.

The short version

Your scripts

The scripts you write, paste or import are kept in a file in the app’s own storage on your phone: each script’s title, text, its prompter settings (speed, text size, margins, mirror, countdown and, with Pro, a target time) and when it was created and last changed. Before a change is saved, the app keeps a few earlier copies of that file on the phone, so a failed save never loses a script. We never receive any of it.

When you import a .txt or .rtf file (Speakmark Pro), the app reads only the file you pick. When you back up your scripts, the app makes the file on your phone and hands it to your phone’s share sheet; it goes only where you choose to save or send it. Restoring reads only the file you pick.

The camera and the microphone

Speakmark asks for the camera when you first open the recording screen, and for the microphone when you start your first take. The camera, and once you have allowed it the microphone, are on only while the recording screen is open and Speakmark is on screen; they turn off when you leave that screen, leave the app or lock the phone. Your phone shows its own indicator whenever they are on. Picture and sound are recorded only between your tap on Start and your tap on Stop. The script you read is drawn over the camera preview and is never part of the video.

A finished take is kept in the app’s storage on your phone while you watch it. If you leave it without saving or sharing it, it is deleted. If you save or share it, a working copy may stay in the app’s temporary storage until your phone clears it or you delete the app. Speakmark never uploads your videos, never analyses them and recognises no speech or faces.

You can turn the camera or the microphone off for Speakmark at any time in your phone’s settings; the prompter works without them.

Photos

When you tap Save to Photos, Speakmark asks your phone for permission to add videos to your photo library, and adds that video. It cannot see or read the photos and videos already there.

What else stays on your phone

We never receive any of the above, and deleting the app deletes it from your phone.

Your phone’s own backups

If your phone’s backup is turned on (iCloud Backup on iPhone, or Google’s backup on Android), Apple or Google may include your scripts and settings in that backup, under their own terms. Videos you saved are in your photo library, which follows your photo library’s own settings. We never see or receive your backups.

Purchases

Speakmark Pro is a one-time purchase made through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handle the payment; we never see your card details.

To check the purchase, the app uses RevenueCat, a purchase service. It asks RevenueCat when the app opens (so Pro stays unlocked, and is removed if a purchase is refunded), when you open the Speakmark Pro page (for the price), and when you buy or restore. RevenueCat receives an anonymous ID that the app creates on your device, your purchase records from the store, and basic technical details such as the app version, the operating system version, your store country and the IP address the request comes from. It does not receive your name or email, and nothing about your scripts or videos. We use this to unlock Speakmark Pro on your devices. RevenueCat also shows us purchase totals, such as how many people bought Speakmark Pro, but not who they are.

Ratings

After you have read a few scripts to the end, Speakmark may show the store’s own rating window once. “Rate Speakmark” in Settings opens the store page. Anything you write there goes to Apple or Google under their terms, not to us.

If you write to us

“Contact” in Settings opens your own email app with a message to us. Nothing is sent unless you send it. We use what you write, and your email address, only to read and answer your message.

Who else is involved

We don’t sell or share anything with anyone else, and Speakmark contains no advertising code and no usage analytics.

Permissions

Speakmark does not ask for your location, contacts or Bluetooth (a page-turner or keyboard works as a keyboard), does not run in the background, and does not ask to track you.

This website

These pages use no cookies, scripts or web fonts. Like any web server, ours keeps a short-lived log of requests (IP address, page and time) for security; it is not used for anything else.

Removing your data

Deleting Speakmark removes your scripts and everything else it stored on your phone. Videos you saved to Photos stay there until you delete them. You can also delete any script in the app at any time. A copy may stay in your phone’s own backup until you delete that backup or it is replaced. To have RevenueCat’s anonymous purchase record removed, email us; your purchase itself stays with Apple or Google, so you can still restore it.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing the address below. As everything stays on your phone, there is usually nothing on our side beyond RevenueCat’s anonymous record. We answer within 30 days. If you live in the EU or the UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Speakmark is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live) and collects no personal information from anyone. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email aneesrnmba@gmail.com and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects what is collected or how it is used, we’ll say so in the app.
